Here, in the Warramunga and allied tribes, we completely lose sight of the latter feature, and in the instance of every totem with which we are acquainted, save one or two exceptional cases, there is merely one great ancestor, half human, half beast, or plant, who wandered about the country performing ceremonies at spots where he left behind him spirit children who emanated from his body.^ In essential features this belief is very closely similar to that of the Urabunna tribe, in which descent is counted in the female line.
